The Genetics and Epidemiology of Human Populations research group, led by Dr. Pedro Moral, has started a crowdfunding campaign to characterize the genome of populations in the Catalan Pyrenees. The research team has chosen the Precipita crowdfunding platform to raise the 4,000 euros that are needed to carry out the project. The Catalan Pyrenees has historically been an important transit area, which has left distinctive marks on the genetic makeup of its inhabitants. The genomic characterization of these demographic signals will make it possible to estimate the predisposition of the inhabitants of the Catalan Pyrenean regions to common diseases such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
